Sejarah Lambang Bulan Bintang Dalam Islam
Penggunaan simbol bulan bintang terjadi setelah Sultan Memet (Muhammad) II menaklukan konstatinopel pada 1453.
Kristen memiliki simbol salib, Yahudi mempunyai bintang Daud, dan Islam identik dengan bulan sabit dan bintang berdimensi lima. Rasanya tidak afdhol jika di puncak kubah atau menara masjid tidak ada bulan bintang. Tidak akan ada yang membantah bahwa keduanya diasosiasikan sebagai simbol Islam. Tapi, dari mana asalnya?
Penggunaan simbol bulan bintang berhubungan dengan kekaisaran Ottoman di Turki, atau lebih dikenal dengan Turki Usmani. Dinasti Usman menjadi penguasa Islam dalam 36 generasi, lebih dari enam abad (1299-1922). Usman atau dikenal sebagai Usman I tak adfa hubungannya dengan Khalifah Usman bis Affan RA. Usman adalah pendiri kekaisaran ini. Ayahnya, Urtugul, seorang kepala suku dan penguasa lokal, semacam demag di jawa.
Sebagai suku yang berkelanan dari Asia Tengah selama berabad-abad, oleh kesultanan Saljuk di Anatolia ia diberi wilayah di perbatasan dengan Byzantium.seiring melemahnya kesultanan Saljuk, Usman menyatakan kemerdekaan wilayahnya pada 1299.
Penggunanaan simbol bulan bintang terjadi setelah Sultan Mehmet (Muhammad, red) II, sultan ke-7, menaklukkan konstatinopel pada 1453, ibukota Romawi Timur atau lebih dikenal dengan kekaisaran Bizantium. Negara superpower saat itu yang menetapkan Kristen sebagai agama resmi Negara.
Lambang kota itu adalah bulan dan bintang. Mehmet II mengadopsi simbol Konstatinopel menjadi bendera Ottoman. Nama Konstatinopel pun diganti dengan Istanbul.
Sebelumnya bendera Ottoman hanya segitiga sama kaki yang rebah, yang garis sisi kedua kakinya melengkung. Benderanya berwarna merah. Setelah penaklukan konstatinopel, di tengah bendera itu ditambahi bulan dan bintang berwarna putih. Pada 1844. bentuk bendera Ottoman berubah segiempat.
Bendera ini mengalami modifikasi lagi pada 1922, yang kemudia ditetapkan dalam konstitusi pada 1936, setelah Ottoman jatuh, menjadi bendera seperti sekarang ini yang dipakai oleh turki modern. Bintang dan bulan sabitnya menjadi lebih langsing. Sebelumnya tampak lebih gemuk namun warna dasarnya tetap merah, serta gambar bulan bintangnya tetap putih.
PAGAN DAN KRISTEN
Tak ada catatan yang menerangkan nama asli kota Istanbul hingga bangsa Yunani memberinya nama Byzantium 667 SM. Nama itu dirujuk dari nama satu tokoh dalam mitologi Yunani, yaitu Byaz. Sebagai bangsa pagan, Yunani memberi simbol bulan sabit pada kota itu untuk didedikasikan pada dewa mereka, Dewi Artemis (Dewi Diana) yang bersimbol bulan sabit.
Mereka menaklukan kota itu dengan diterangi cahaya bulan dan catatan lain yang menyebutkan bahwa bulan sabit merupakan simbol Dewi Tnit (Carthagian, Bangsa Phoenioc).
Simbol bulan sabit tetap dipertahankan ketika kota ini direbut bangsa Romawi oleh kaisar Constantine pada 330 M. Nama kota berganti menjadi Nova Rome (Roma Baru) dan menjadi ibukota Romawi, pindah dari Roma di Italia (pada 395, Romawi pecah menjadi Romawi Barat dan Romawi Timur).
Namun setalah raja Constantine wafat, kota ini lebih dikenal dengan nama Konstantinopel (kota Konstantin). Namus kaisar menambah simbol bintang ditengahnya. Bintang disebutkan sebagai simbol perawan suci bunda Maria. Namun catatan lain menyebutkan bahwa simbol bintang dirujuk dari simbol Dewi Ishtar (kata star = bintang dalam bahasa inggris diambil dari nama dewi itu).
Catatan lain menyebutkan bahwa kedua simbol itu telah dipakai bangsa Turki Kuno. Hal ini dibuktikan oleh penemuan artefak yang menggambarkan bulan bintang. Bahkan disebutkan bahwa simbol itu juga digunakan di Sumeria. Simbol itu kemudia diserap bangsa Turki ketika mereka melewati lembah itu dalam perjalanannya dari Asia Tengah – wilayah yang diduga sebagai asal-usul bangsa Turki – menuju Anatolia.
Sedangkan legenda Turki Usmani menyebutkan bahwa simbol-simbol tersebut diambil dari mimpi Usman I. mimpi itu terjadi jauh sebelum ia menjadi raja. Penasihat spiritualnya menyebutkan bahwa mimpi itu menjadi pertanda akan kebesarannya namanya di masa depan.
Mana yang benar? Hingga kini belum ada penelitian yang meyakinkan soal ini. Namun, Ottoman adalah Negeri pertama yang menggunakan simbol tersebut.
HITAM YANG SIMPEL
Lalu, apakah simbol Islam yang asli? Rasulullah Muhammad SAW maupun KhulafaurRasyidin (632-661) tak pernah membuat ketetapan soal itu. Al-Qur’an pun tak pernah membicarakan soal tersebut. Bukti-bukti sejarah menunjukkan bahwa di zaman Rasulullah hanya ada bendera panji-panji perang yang sangat sederhana dengan satu warna: hitam, putih, atau hijau. Di ‘Negara Madinah’ di zaman Khilafah yang empat memiliki simbol berupa bendera persegi empat berwara hitam.
Bendera segi empat warna hjitam juga digunakan Dinasti Umayah di Damaskus (660-750) dan di Kordoba (929-1010), dan Dinasti Abbasiyah di Baghdad (750-1258) maupun di Kairo (1261-1517). Hanya Dinasti Fatimiyah di Kairo (909-1171) yang menggunakan bendera warna hijau.
Jika kita cermati, semua dinasti yang menggunakan simbol yang sangat sederhana itu, Cuma warna yang polos dan tanpa gambar, tulisan atau tanda lainnya, adalah dinasti yang berdarah asal dari tanah Hijaz. Sedangkan kerajaan-kerajaan Islam lainnya seperti Ottoman, Saljuk, Malmuk, Moghul, maupun keajaan-kerajaan Islam Nusantara memiliki bendera yang bergambar.
TAK PERLU DISESALI
Pertanyaannya adalah, apakah penggunaan simbol itu harus dihentikan karena bukan lahir dari tradisi Islam? Ternyata, hasil polling via internet oleh sebuah situs yag masih satu grup dengan The York Times, menyatakan , bahwa 39% tetap ingin menggunakan simbol tersebut. Jauh meninggalkan urutan kedua dan ketiganya: kaligrafi (18%), dan Ka’bah (15%).
Selain itu, seperti kata cendikiawan muslim Prof. Dr. Azyumardi Azra, dalam tradisi Islam simbol simbol bulan bintang memang sangat dominan begitu pula di bidang astronomi Islam. Dalam kalender Hijriyah bulan dijadikan dasar perhitungan astronomis. Sehingga bulan sebagai simbol, bukan matahari. Hal-hal yang bersifat ibadah seperti shalat, penentuan awal puasa, maupun lebaran juga menggunakan bulan sebagai patokannya. Karena itu tahun Islam sebagai tahun Qomariyah, yang artinya bulan. Bukan Syamsiyah (matahari).
Sedangkan teori yang menyebutkan bahwa simbol bulan bintang lahir dari Yunani dan Romawi hanya spekulasi saja. Berbeda dengan tradisi Islam yang sangat kuat dengan bulan. Apalagi simbol bulan bintang sudah diterima secara universal.
